outlining a uk ‘constitution’ [Real player/Windows media player]

Context: An opposition MP, Damion Green, was arrested and held for 9 hours while his offices at parliament and in his constituency, as well as his home, were searched and papers and computers confiscated. The MP had received non-security related information from a government whistleblower.

The socialist government is attempting to use claims of confidentiality in their pursuit of arbitary government and secrecy.

The linked video has a succinct outline, by David Starkey of the present problems with the UK ‘constitution’ and the current attack of civil liberties. [: Starts at 05:22m]

new service to stop police wasting our time and taxes - the speed trap con

“Drivers who spot hidden speed cameras will be able to alert other vehicles within three seconds with the help of a dashboard gadget. They will no longer need to flash their headlights to oncoming drivers but will simply press a button on a satellite-positioning device.

“The device, which exploits a loophole in the law, transmits the location of the speedtrap to a processing centre. The information is relayed to other drivers who have installed the same equipment. A car travelling 300 yards behind the driver who first spots the trap would receive the warning in time to slow down before the camera.”

“Road safety groups said that the new device would undermine the ability of police to enforce the limit because drivers would be able to speed with very little risk of being caught. More than 50,000 drivers in France already have the new device. In September they reported 27,000 traps.” [Quoted from timesonline.co.uk]

Marker at abelard.org

“In September 2006 they discovered that the proportion of injury crashes involving any speeding vehicle nationally was only 5% - not the 'one third' that they had previously claimed.”

The writer means that only about 5% of drivers were exceeding the speed limit.

“In March we learned via Freedom of Information request that the speed camera side effects research (announced in May 2005) had been axed. It is inconceivable that the side effects DON'T cost more than 25 lives per year, meaning that speed cameras are making road safety worse. But DfT doesn't want to hear this, which is the only possible reason for axing the most important research. ”[Quoted from.safespeed.org.uk]

Marker at abelard.org

“The UK Department for Transport funded, then suppressed, a study that shows a 55 percent increase in injury accidents when speed cameras are used on highway work zones and a 31 percent increase when used on freeways without construction projects. According to the Transport Research Laboratory, the "non-works [personal injury accident] rate is significantly higher for the sites with speed cameras than the rate for sites without.” [Quoted from thenewspaper.com]

“Excessive speed includes both speeding in excess of the speed limit and inappropriate speed for the conditions. However, data from Avon & Somerset (the only force to supply such data) shows that 70% of "excessive speed" accidents takes place within the speed limit. Therefore it's fair to assume that 30% involves exceeding the speed limit. A quick calculation (30% of 12.5%) reveals that just 3.75% of accidents involves exceeding the speed limit.”

“Cuts in Traffic Police have been linked to an increase in road deaths. In 10 years traffic police have decreased from 8,900 to 6,500 by 2002. This is possibly due to the reliance on "robotic policing" with speed cameras.” [Quoted from speedcameras.org]

democrat achievements

An an interesting piece of writing. It amazes me that ‘blacks’ have been conned into backing a socialist fool and backing ‘Democrat’ legislation that undermines their own freedoms and advance.

Of course, ‘Democrats’ are against freedom, as they have once more demonstrated by opposing the freeing of Iraq from socialism.

  • “It was the Democrats who fought to keep blacks in slavery and passed the discriminatory Black Codes and Jim Crow laws.

  • “The Democrats started the Ku Klux Klan to lynch and terrorize blacks.

  • “The Democrats fought to prevent the passage of every civil rights law beginning with the civil rights laws of the 1860's, and continuing with the civil rights laws of the 1950's and 1960's.

  • “It was Republican President Dwight Eisenhower who pushed to pass the Civil Rights Act of 1957 and sent troops to Arkansas to desegregate schools.

  • Much is made of Democrat President Harry Truman's issuing an Executive Order in 1948 to desegregate the military. Not mentioned is the fact that it was President Eisenhower who actually took action to effectively end segregation in the military.

  • “President Kennedy was opposed to the 1963 March on Washington by Dr. King that was organized by A. Phillip Randolph who was a black Republican.

  • “ President Kennedy, through his brother Attorney General Robert Kennedy, had Dr. King wiretapped and investigated by the FBI on suspicion of being a Communist in order to undermine Dr. King.

  • In 1968, after riots broke out in Tennessee where a teenager was killed, Democrat Senator Robert Byrd, a former member of the Ku Klux Klan, called Dr. King a "trouble-maker" who starts trouble, but runs like a coward after trouble is ignited. A few weeks later, Dr. King returned to Memphis and was assassinated on April 4, 1968.

  • “Although affirmative action now has been turned by the Democrats into an unfair quota system, affirmative action was begun by Nixon to counter the harm caused to blacks when Democrat President Woodrow Wilson in 1912 kicked all of the blacks out of federal government jobs.

“It was Republicans who founded the historically Black Colleges and Universities.”

take-down notices to youtube censor presidential political ads

John McCain wrote to YouTube complaining that they were taking down almost immediately his ads posted there, YouTube having received take-down notices. YouTube’s reason: unfounded, copyright issuses over the inclusion of very short clips owned by various TV organisations.

“Republican presidential candidate John McCain is accusing YouTube LLC of acting too quickly to comply with copyright infringement notices by yanking his campaign videos.

“McCain's campaign sent a letter Monday to YouTube parent company Google Inc., protesting YouTube's removal of unnamed videos from the site after receiving take-down notices claiming copyright infringement under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). The McCain camp goes on to suggest that YouTube set up a special process for reviewing the legal merit of take-down requests for YouTube accounts associated with candidates or their campaigns.

“The letter asserts that numerous times during the campaign, YouTube removed videos that do not violate the DMCA, but instead are examples of fair use of material because the videos included less than 10 seconds of footage from news broadcasts. The use of material from news broadcasts is protected as fair use under the DMCA, McCain's letter claims, because the videos are noncommercial uses of the material, the material is factual and brief, and the videos don't affect the market for the allegedly infringed material.” [Quoted from freerepublic.com]

YouTube’s response:

“YouTube responded to the McCain campaign's complaints last week, saying it could not give the campaigns special treatment by conducting a "full legal review" of political videos subject to takedown notices before removing them.” [Quoted from news.cnet.com]

Now a coalition of several civil liberties organistions have written to television networks to stop this activity contrary to freedom of speech (First Amendment). The coalition has also written to YouTube [.pdf].

“The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) and a coalition of public interest groups called on four television networks today to stop stifling vibrant political debate on the Internet with overreaching copyright claims and proposed two measures to help YouTube protect online political speech in the final days before America's presidential election.” [Quoted from eff.org]

Marker at abelard.org

“On Monday [20 October 2008], groups including the Electronic Frontier Foundation, the American Civil Liberties Union, and American University's Center for Social Media, sent an open letter (PDF) to CBS, the Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN), Fox, and NBC, asking them to stop sending Digital Millenium Copyright Act takedown notices to YouTube over short clips of news footage used in election-related videos.” [Quoted from news.cnet.com]

We had to replace the ad here because it had been taken down from YouTube elsewhere.

reversing dreams of hoarding personal details

“Tens of thousands of criminal records could be deleted after a landmark ruling that police were breaking rules on the holding of personal details.

“Police reacted with dismay to a judgment by the Information Tribunal, which could force them to review millions of records of minor crimes.

“The ruling opens the way for all those who have been convicted of a minor offence when young, and who have since remained out of trouble, to apply for their record to be removed from the Police National Computer.”

‘new’ labour tries to propagandise youth before they can think - but it’s ‘new’ labour, so it isn’t working!

“Welcome to mylifemyid - the site where 16-25's can have their say about identity issues in the UK. A few simple things to remember:

“* We want to know what you think, so contribute contribute contribute. Don’t be shy.
* You must first register if you want to add your comments - it takes only a couple of minutes.”

‘Moderated’, of course.

Government site, paid by the government, so advertising, to try and charm uk’s youf.

But they’re not having any.

All comments are negative and well thought out, except....
those of moderators, which are patronising and read like psychiatrists trying to persuade a dangerous loon to have some ECT. See, for instance,

even wedgewood benn comes out against ‘new’ labour and for david davis!

“So when I heard that David Davis was standing in the Haltemprice and Howden by-election, I decided to support him. I hope the Government's move towards 42 days' detention without charge, recently passed in the House of Commons, will be stopped as a result of his campaign.”

“ For many years the Labour government has boasted about the traditional values and freedoms of this country; and yet, when its MPs voted to amend the Terrorism Act and permit 42 days in prison without charge, they effectively repealed Magna Carta.”

and calls the Clown a liar:

“The fact that the Labour party has decided not to contest the seat indicates that it knows that it cannot win the argument on 42 days.”

voters: no, no, no - but euro-politicians: ignore that

“In normal democratic and accountable institutions, the democratic will, voiced several times over, must eventually be heeded. In the EU, as if to prove the point that its detractors continually make about its arrogance and complacency, "No" is not an answer anyone is prepared to accept.

“Instead of creating the sort of Europe that most of its 480 million citizens apparently want to see, the Euro-elites propose instead to hold more summits and conferences to bring about the conclusion that they insist on achieving. That is the "ever-closer union" set out in the Treaty of Rome 50 years ago.

“While there are some countries in Europe for whom that is the ultimate goal, ours is not one of them. So what should happen now? First, the treaty is dead and no amount of Jesuitical sophistry can resuscitate it. The Bill to ratify the treaty in Britain is currently before Parliament; indeed, the Lords will vote on its final provisions next week. Gordon Brown should withdraw the legislation and use the forthcoming Brussels summit to persuade the EU to begin work on a new dispensation that would return power to nations and peoples.

“EU leaders should ask themselves why the Irish, who have cause to thank the EU and its taxpayers more than most, should support a "No" campaign waged by what the government in Dublin regarded as a motley coalition of extremists. In reality, the 45 per cent of the Irish electorate that turned out have cast proxy ballots for millions more unconsulted Europeans. The rest of us should feel ashamed and angry that it fell to a small and peripheral nation to preserve our democracy.”

the transparent society, according to socialist politicians

You can trust socialist government with your life,

if you have nothing to hide.

Italy’s defeated socialist government posts all citizens’ wage details on the web

“The incomes of every Italian citizen were published on the web without any prior warning by the government, just days before it was due to leave power.

“Claiming it was part of a crackdown on tax evasion, the finance ministry yesterday put details of the declared taxable income of every citizen on the country's tax website.

“The site proved hugely popular. Surprised Italians, delighted at the chance to find out how much their neighbours, colleagues, and high-profile celebrities were earning, bombarded the site within hours of it going live.”

don’t confuse me with the facts - steyn on the politically correct attack on free speech
page 1 page 2 page 3

“[...] But once the drawings became an international news story it seems absurd to publish reports on the controversy without also showing what all the fuss is about. CNN did show the cartoons, but with the Prophet's face all blurry and pixilated - the first time, I believe, that this familiar technique of investigative TV journalism has been applied not to a human being but to a, er, drawing, as if the cartoon Muhammad had entered the witness protection program.”

“ Messages that make use of allegedly true stories, news reports, pictures and references to apparently reputable sources in an attempt to lend an air of objectivity and truthfulness to the extremely negative characterization of the targeted group have been found to be likely to expose members of the targeted group to hatred and contempt.”

seeing the future - government wants to control your thermostats via radio

And where does government control end and government help start?

“Pacific Gas and Electric, the major utility in Northern California, already has a pilot program in Stockton that allows customers to choose to have their air-conditioning systems attached to a radio-controlled device to reduce use during periods when electricity rates are at their peak.

“But the idea that a government would mandate use of these devices and reserve the power to override a building owner’s wishes galls some people.”
