EDUCATION

prevention of failure from early childhood

Review article of fact-based strategies
 http://www.successforall.net/preventfail.html [currently unavailable]
I regard this article as useful but somewhat squishy, it includes a helpful series of references.

privatisation of education

http://www.schoolchoices.org/roo/tooley1.htm
a useful article suggesting advantages in commercialising education, with examples.return to index

POLITICS AND ECONOMY

British politics resources

Jewel's site - enormous research resource, currently receiving 14 million hits a year. your definitive first port of call if you need information on the political system of the uk.

an excellent media directory resource is to be found at -

European Union

MODELLING

Emergent behaviour
The study of apparently complex behaviour, arising from (often very few) simple rules.

advertising disclaimer
  Matfa's Boids
Computer simulation of flocking behaviour. Watching this simulation from time to time, will help you to internalise the nature of crowds. It is also a useful demonstration of emergent behaviour.
http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Bay/5922/

city behaviour and sand-piles
Useful review article (with links) attempting to explore interactive human and evolutionary behaviours, using emergent behaviour computer models.
http://www.jewishworldreview.com/jonathan/rauch050802.asp

Some useful clarification may be found here:
http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2002/04/seeing-around-corners/302471/
It is useful background or reinforcement of the mathematical philosophy.

Memes
Viruses of the mind - a paper by Richard Dawkins
    http://www.santafe.edu/~shalizi/Dawkins/viruses-of-the-mind.html
See also further commentary at the Logic of Ethics and feedback and crowding.
See also comment on booklist under
Dawkins, those sources all comment widely on various computer simulations for artificial intelligence animal behaviour studies. Further useful web-links can be found on the Matfa link above and on Craig Reynolds' site at
   http://www.red3d.com/cwr/boids/

Games theory
A useful site for recent work, using simple games structures to gain understanding of behaviour, can be found at
    http://www.iew.unizh.ch/home/fehr/
See also commentary in feedback and crowding. If you are new to the game theory approach, for a fine, clear, simple introduction see The Evolution of Cooperation

Population and Resource Forecasts 30 years out
A rather scary linear set of forecasts if we don't change our wicked ways.

LOGIC

A sampler of non-aristotelian logic...(sub category, E-Prime)

At the Robert A. Wilson site, you can find an introduction to Korzybski by this cult surrealistic sci-fi author, taken from his 1992 book (non-fiction), Quantum psychology. This excerpt is written with considerable accuracy with the exception of the words, ‘the impossibility’ toward the end of the document. This summary is very well worth the time it will take you to read.
    http://www.rawilson.com/quantum.html

Application of E-prime

The Dan Scorpio site is concerned with the practical uses of the principles of more clear linguistics/semantics. The document referenced contains several useful references, which in their turn contain other useful links.

Medieval philosophy lectures

The following site has a very useful series of documents (i would prefer just a little more precision at points) on the history of medieval 'philosophy', in particular, note the subsection, 'forms and universals'.
    http://www.neaccess.net/~jbgenest/mirabilibus/p-index.html [currently unavailable]

A list of common 'logical' errors within the aristotelian paradigm

A useful, if rather notey list of common errors within the false paradigm of aristotelian 'logic'. It is useful to compare with the more accurate non-aristotelian paradigm above.
    http://www.uncwil.edu/people/kozloffm/logicalfallacies.html

Also see why Aristotelian logic does not work at this site.

There is also a similar and supplementary list at this site at with a touch of formal logic and latin names.
