New translation, the Magna Carta

“to keep the accountability police at bay” - how does an educator keep these union boors at bay?

From pap central:

“As I sort through all I have learned (and continue to learn) from my time here, I am even more appreciative and have even greater admiration for those US administrators who have the courage to face the fear, be truly innovative, and give their teachers and students the opportunity to develop schools that engage and inspire students rather than attempting to shape and control them. They are the exception, they are truly courageous, and it is a pleasure to work with them. You know who you are.” [Quoted from funderstanding.com]

“...we are motivated by a never-ending quest to satisfy the following 5 basic needs woven into our genes: to love and belong, to be powerful, to be free, to have fun and to survive.” [Quoted from funderstanding.com]

And you wonder why the state school cartels are failing?

innumerate fossil media in full cry - cost of christchurch earthquake

All dollars may be in one of, at least, three currencies.

“Losses from fresh NZ quake may top $6b, says analyst.” [Quoted from royalgazette.com]

“THE tragedy may cost New Zealand $12 billion and trigger an interest rate cut of half a per cent.” [Quoted from adelaidenow.com.au]

“Experts tip $16bn to raise city again.” [Quoted from adelaidenow.com.au]

The last two estimates are from the same source.

chinese know those perfidious brits are lying

“She laughs. “Because they won’t believe that any government would continue to spend some 80 billion pounds per year on a system that doesn’t work.”

“I frown and she continues. “Think about it. They’re thinking, no one in their right mind would ever willingly pour that kind of money down the plug hole every year, knowing that half their children are failing.”

“I raise an eyebrow. “So you mean they think we’re lying to them, in some mad race for world domination?”

“She nods, laughing. “Yeah, yeah, that’s it! They think we’re trying to pull the wool over their eyes… Apparently that’s what they all think… and that’s why the Chinese continue to send their children to us for their studies. They think we’re lying to them.” ”

benedict on reality

“Some atheists say science can prove that God does not exist, but Benedict said that some scientific theories were "mind limiting" because "they only arrive at a certain point ... and do not manage to explain the ultimate sense of reality ..."

“He said scientific theories on the origin and development of the universe and humans, while not in conflict with faith, left many questions unanswered.

“ "In the beauty of the world, in its mystery, in its greatness and in its rationality ... we can only let ourselves be guided toward God, creator of heaven and earth," he said.

“Benedict and his predecessor John Paul have been trying to shed the Church's image of being anti-science, a label that stuck when it condemned Galileo for teaching that the earth revolves around the sun, challenging the words of the Bible.

“Galileo was rehabilitated and the Church now also accepts evolution as a scientific theory and sees no reason why God could not have used a natural evolutionary process in the forming of the human species.

“The Catholic Church no longer teaches creationism -- the belief that God created the world in six days as described in the Bible -- and says that the account in the book of Genesis is an allegory for the way God created the world.

“But it objects to using evolution to back an atheist philosophy that denies God's existence or any divine role in creation. It also objects to using Genesis as a scientific text." ”

The Church of Rome has admitted to the possibility of error over Galileo and Darwin.

It is a false construct that religion does not change. An institution does not survive thousands of years by being unable to adapt. Only a scientist could believe otherwise!

It has taken about 150 years for the Vatican to recognize evolution, and roughly 350 years to come clean about Galileo. At the same time, atheistic socialism has killed many tens of millions. And yet there are still the dogmatists that vote for socialists.

Meanwhile, the Vatican recognised socialism as a desperate evil within very short order.

civilising children - some of the the real reasons some parents succeed

Recommended reading.

“Here are some things my daughters, Sophia and Louisa, were never allowed to do:

  • attend a sleepover
  • have a playdate
  • be in a school play
  • complain about not being in a school play
  • watch TV or play computer games
  • choose their own extracurricular activities
  • get any grade less than an A
  • not be the No.1 student in every subject except gym and drama
  • play any instrument other than the piano or violin
  • not play the piano or violin.”

The book may be of interest. In fact, World on Fire looks so interesting that I have ordered a copy. This book is also endorsed by Thomas Sowell.

Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother appears to be little more than the information available in the above linked article. The further I look, the more it looks as if this book has been rushed out in view of the interest in the linked article.

“The worst thing about Tiger Mother’s method is this: it works. Sophia, Chua’s compliant elder daughter, made her Carnegie Hall piano debut at 14. Lulu, the rebellious one – we’re talking polite Chinese rebellion here, not the heroin-dependent British variety – led a prominent youth orchestra and still found time to score straight As. Obviously, it would be cheering to report that both girls are humourless automatons with terrible dress sense. Sadly not. They have turned out so well they call their mother “insane”.” [Quoted from telegraph.co.uk]
