7: french flutterbys - the auroran sunset
Here at abelard.org, we take a lot of photographs. Many of them are pretty or interesting. This is the seventh in a regular “photograph with little or no explanation or comment” feature.
Here are six pretty French butterflies. Although I’m not 100% sure what they are, I’m fairly sure my namings are in the right area... but who cares what they’re called, just watch the pretty butterflies flutter by; and hope they stand still long enough for me to take a photo!
This first I think is a clouded yellow:

This second I’m sure is a fritillary, but there are so many varieties of fritillary that I can’t be sure which mine is:

This third I’m fairly certain is a false grayling, but it could be one of the many varieties of not-so-false graylings:

This fourth is a marbled white (again there are sub-species):
[Taken in France on the 21th June 2006.]
This fifth I think must be some sort of “blue”. The picture in the book mine looks most like is the “osiris blue”. However, the book shows a very small range for the osiris... so who knows!:

This sixth looks like a moth, but it also looks very like the small skipper in the butterfly book, so maybe I’ll believe the book:
