Clean-up facilities for holidaymakers |
|||
Vegetable oil and paper towels have been provided by the local lifeguard service for visitors to clean themselves up once they leave the beaches. Despite daily cleaning of the beaches by the local authorities, by high tide there is a strip of small (1 to 2 cm diameter) lumps of fuel oil at the high-water line, and larger lumps too. There is more lumps of every size swilling around in the sea and further amounts buried in the sand below and above the tide-line. The only real way to avoid any contamination is not to visit beaches.
